Press Release on Celebration of International Gita Mahotsav on 15th November 2025

The event aimed to promote the universal teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, emphasizing its enduring message of peace, harmony, selfless action, and universal brotherhood. The celebration also highlighted the shared cultural values between India and Ghana and contributed to the strengthening of warm and friendly relations between the two nations.

2. More than 250 guests attended the programme, including members of the six branches of the Hindu Monastery of Africa, ISKCON, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Hindu Vidya Mission, and the Indian diaspora. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and the recitation of shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita by children from ISKCON.

3. Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Mr. Manish Gupta underlined the Gita’s universal and timeless relevance. He observed that the scripture, revealed by Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, continues to offer profound guidance for modern life. He also highlighted the inscription of the Bhagavad Gita in UNESCO’s World Register of Memory in April 2025, recognizing its civilizational significance and global impact.

Mr. George Ebo Crentsil, General Secretary of the Hindu Monastery of Africa, spoke about the three core principles of the Gita—Duty, Dharma, and Leadership—as foundations for enlightened living and moral governance. Representing the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Mr. Ashwiini Ddarak emphasized that the Gita is not merely a religious text but a timeless guide for leading a purposeful and peaceful life. H.G. Srivas Das Vancari Maharaj shared spiritual insights on Lord Krishna’s teachings, noting that those who imbibe the Gita’s message are better equipped to face life’s challenges with courage and clarity. Dr. Davis Boison from Hindu Monastry of Africa, he pledged to follow the Gita’s teaching i.e., perform duty with devotion, walk the path of dharma with courage, lead with integrity and humility. Ms. Nimeesha Gupta, Spouse of High Commissioner, dwelled on teachings of Gita emphasizing on controlling the mind through meditation and yoga. She also emphasized how the sacred text offers timeless guidance on achieving mastery over the mind, explaining that practices such as meditation and yoga serve as powerful tools for cultivating inner discipline, clarity, and emotional balance.

5. The programme featured devotional kirtans and bhajans by members of the Hindu Monastery, along with a presentation of the 15th Chapter of the Gita by children from Hindu Vidya Mission. Children from the Hindu Monastery also recited Sanskrit shlokas, expressing gratitude for their participation. An exhibition on the teachings of the Gita, organized by ISKCON, provided attendees with insights into India’s rich spiritual heritage.

6. The event concluded with the soulful Gita Aarti, leaving the audience inspired by the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita.
